Cookies

Cookies are small pieces of information sent by a web server to a web browser, which enables the server to collect information from the browser. You can find out more about the way cookies work on http://www.cookiecentral.com. Tesco uses cookies to:

  • help ensure the security of transactions;
  • provide the mechanisms for online shopping and recipe club subscription; and
  • enable traffic monitoring.

Visitors of the UK Diet Club site are sent anonymous cookies to keep track of their browsing patterns and build up a demographic profile. In addition, any visitor who has clicked on a Tesco or UK Diet Club advertisement on another site that links to Tesco or the UK Diet Club site may be sent a semi-persistent (e.g. two weeks lifetime) anonymous cookie that will allow Tesco to analyse advertising effectiveness and manage its relationship with affiliate sites.

Whilst you do not need to allow your browser to accept cookies in order to access the UK Diet Club site, you must have cookies enabled if you wish to subscribe to one of the services on the UK Diet Club site.

Most browsers allow you to turn off the cookie function. If you want to know how to do this please look at the help menu on your browser. As described above this will restrict your use of the UK Diet Club site.

How we use cookies on our site and what information we collect.

Two types of cookies are used on this website: Session Cookies - Which are temporary cookies that remain in the cookie file of your browser until you leave the site, Persistent Cookies - Which remain in the cookie file of your browser for much longer (though how long will depend on the lifetime of the specific cookie). Session cookies:

  • To allow you to carry information across pages of our site and avoid having to re-enter information.
  • Within registration to allow you to access stored information.
  • To allow Tesco to pay partners for introducing the user to the site.

Persistent cookies:

  • To help us recognise you as a unique visitor when you return to our website and to allow us to tailor content or advertisements to match your preferred interests or to avoid showing you the same adverts repeatedly.
  • To compile anonymous, aggregated statistics that allow us to understand how users use our site and to help us improve the structure of our website. We cannot identify you personally in this way.

Third party cookies:

Third parties serve cookies via this site. These are used for the following purposes:

  • To serve advertisements on our site and track whether these advertisements are clicked on by users.
